Kim Chiu Bagged the top position for YES Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful Stars this year 2010.  Together with other Kapamilya stars who showed up in front of the press people, Kim accepted the recognition.  Also, Joan Maglipon, the editor in chief of YES! Magazine graced the event for all media guests.  Kim dethroned Marian Rivera from this annual event.

Charice Pempengco Joins American Dramedy Show Glee

 

This is the latest blessing or shall I say fruit of being a hardworker.  Charice Pempengco is the new rival talent of Rachel Berry (played by Lea Michele).  Charice will be seen next season on this dramedy show, “Glee”.  The 18-year-old international pop singing sensation will play a foreign exchange student with vocal chops that will give Rachel some serious competition.

“Glee” is known to feature artists from various ethnicities. Charice’s appearance is certainly a big boost to showcase Filipino talent, considering the audience pull the show enjoys.

But, then again, while Charice may have the world on its feet with her amazing singing talent, the question remains whether she can cross thespic swords with these theater-honed, Hollywood-enhanced actors?

That surely would make-or-break her “Glee” stint, aside from of course the worldwide audience reception. But definitely, Filipinos will root for her, given how popular the show is in the Philippines.

Charice rose to fame on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" after a video of her performing "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" went viral on YouTube when she was 16.

Abdominal thrusts (also known as the “Heimlich maneuver” (HIM'lik mah-NOO'ver) are a series of under-the-diaphragm abdominal thrusts. They’re recommended for helping a person who's choking on a foreign object (foreign-body airway obstruction).

The  abdominal  thrust  makes  use  of  the  air reserve in the lungs. It is also highly effective in removing water from the lungs of near drowning victims.

To simplify training of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, abdominal thrusts are recommended for rescuers to use in clearing a blocked airway in conscious adults and children over the age of 1. It's not recommended for choking in infants under age 1.

Abdominal thrusts lift the diaphragm and force enough air from the lungs to create an artificial cough. The cough is intended to move and expel an obstructing foreign body in an airway. Each thrust should be given with the intent of removing the obstruction.

John Lloyd and Shaina Magdayao Love Affair

 

Amid all the vehement denials and outright dismissals of alleged romances in show biz, here comes someone who comes forth and admits the real score in his love life.

John Lloyd Cruz surprised the regular Sunday viewers of “The Buzz” with his admission that he and Shaina Magdayao are now an item.

“Matagal ko nang hinihintay ito,” he says. “Once and for all, gusto ko sabihin at sagutin na, yes, it’s us.”

According to Lloydie, the main reason he came out was that he wanted the speculations about their relationship and the purported links to other personalities to end.

“I wanted to come out and once and for all say something kasi ang dami nang nag-take advantage sa pagtahimik ko. Hindi na maganda kasi marami nang taong nadadamay and marami na ang taong nasasaktan. Hindi na nakakatuwa… Dapat magsalita na ako. Para sa kanila at di para sa akin. Wala akong maiko-complain sa buhay ko. “

To his detractors, he only has this to say:

“I wish them the same happiness I have right now.”

This is a very much welcome development for these two young stars, who have faced a barrage of intrigues over their now confirmed relationship. Previously, Lloydie had been charged with using Shaina to conceal another alleged romance with Ruffa Gutierrez, his co-star in the defunct “I Love Betty La Fea.” During the interview, he also admitted his relationship with Ruffa was “very special.”

He also reportedly promised Sarah Geronimo, his co-star in the blockbuster romantic comedies “A Very Special Love” and “You Changed My Life,” that he would soon woo her.

“Hindi mo ‘yun sinasabi o pinapangako sa isang babae. ‘O maghintay ka diyan ha, hintayin mo ko, after four or five years…’ Hindi mo naman alam kung anong puwedeng mangyari eh. Hindi ‘yan totoo.”

He also allegedly snagged Shaina from her ex-boyfriend John Prats, who supposedly didn’t know of their trysts while they were still together.

Lloydie claims he and John had ironed out the matter “man to man.”

“Iyon kasi ang nakakatawa saka sa kalagitnaan ng usap-usapan diyan, e, siyempre ang tamang gagawin ay kakausapin mo iyong tao. Nagkausap kami lalake sa lalake. Okay, maayos… Lalake sa lalake, sabi ko sa kanya na, ‘Let us put our egos behind us.’ Kung may naaapektuhan dito, ang babae.”

With his admission, Lloydie seems very serious about his feelings for Shaina and their romance would definitely become the hottest item in show biz in the weeks to come.

Why did it take Lloydie a long time to admit this? Somehow, it’s mainly because their relationship isn’t a studio-backed pairing; Lloydie rarely appeared, if ever, opposite Shaina, much less as a marquee love team.

Will it affect his career as a matinee idol, a three-time box office king? In my book, hardly.

John Lloyd Cruz is definitely one of the few young actors who have maintained a bankable acting career regardless of who he is paired with. What more with his personal life?

Even though the U.S. real estate market remained weak, the stock market rebound helped boost the number of millionaire households 15.1 percent in 2009. The U.S. had the most millionaires by far, leading second-in-line Japan by 3,485,000 households.

Millionaires represented a fraction of the U.S. population last year but held 56 percent of its wealth, according to Boston Consulting Group.

The number of millionaire households in Japan grew by a 5.9 percent in 2009. Although No. 3 on the list China tightened the gap with a 30.7 percent increase, Japan still outpaced its developing neighbor by 560,000 households.

While developed countries struggled through the recession, China's economy continued to boom, with gross domestic product growing 8.7 percent last year. The surge of commercial activity has created a growing nouveau riche population in China that includes entrepreneurs and investors, although they still represent a tiny fraction of the total population.

Seeing opportunities in the growing wealthy demographic, luxury retailers have set up operations in major cities, and high-end real estate is drawing interest -- for example, a $30 million house reportedly sold in Shanghai.

Percentage increase: 11.5 percent YOY

As the financial markets improved, the millionaire population is rebounding in the U.K. Their numbers fell by more than half in the recession, according to a 2009 BBC report. The British Chambers of Commerce said the economy was showing signs of leaving recession in 2009, and gross domestic product ticked up 0.3 percent in this year's first quarter over the previous quarter.

5. Germany

Not only have Germany's rich increased in numbers, apparently some have also heightened their sense of public duty.

According to a report by CNBC, a group of German millionaires and billionaires founded a Club of the Wealthy and proposed to Chancellor Angela Merkel that they give 10 percent of their income as a "rich tax" for 10 years to address budget problems.

6. Italy

Population: 60.3 million
2009 number of millionaire households: 300,000
Percentage increase: 7.6 percent YOY
Share of country's wealth held by millionaire households: 27 percent
Italy's economy contracted by 5 percent in 2009, but the number of millionaire households grew, and the rich increased their wealth, according to a PricewaterhouseCoopers study. The report shows that the increase in wealth was mostly a result of €85 billion that flowed into the country under an Italian tax amnesty on assets held in offshore accounts.

7. Switzerland

Population: 7.8 million
2009 number of millionaire households: 283,000
Percentage increase: 8.4 percent YOY
Share of country's wealth held by millionaire households: 44 percent
Switzerland, one of the wealthiest nations by personal income, also has the third-highest concentration of millionaire households -- 8.4 percent of total households, according to the Boston Consulting Group.

In a sign of further strengthening, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economics recently raised its growth forecast for the economy in 2010 to 1.8 percent from 1.4 percent.

8. France

Population: 62.6 million
2009 number of millionaire households: 280,000
Percentage increase: 11.2 percent YOY
Share of country's wealth held by millionaire households: 19 percent
The French may enjoy high quality of life, but France did not make it into the top five for its number of millionaire households. Its gross domestic product last year dropped 2.2 percent, but the government expects GDP to pick up by 1.4 percent in 2010.

9. Taiwan

Population: 23.1 million
2009 number of millionaire households: 230,000
Percentage increase: 21.1 percent YOY
Share of country's wealth held by millionaire households: 37 percent
Home to manufacturers and such technology companies as Acer and Asus, Taiwan has a large number of millionaires, who represent 3 percent of total households, according to BCG. The wealthy in Taiwan enjoy a favorable tax regime. According to an article in Commonwealth Magazine on Chinapost.com, eight of Taiwan's 40 wealthiest people paid no taxes in 2005 and 17 paid just 1 percent of their income. The article adds that nearly 30 percent of households in Taiwan do not pay taxes, and many of them earn high incomes.

10. Hong Kong

Population: 7 million
2009 number of millionaire households: 205,000
Percentage increase: 16.2 percent YOY
Share of country's wealth held by millionaire households: 73 percent
In Hong Kong, 8.8 percent of households are millionaire households -- the second-highest concentration in the world after Singapore, according to data from the Boston Consulting Group. Media reports say the stock market recovery and rising property prices in Hong Kong and China helped the richest add billions to their wealth in 2009.

England Dressing Room Trespasser Just Looking for Toilet

 

So it turns out the man who was first reported to have angrily breached security and invaded the England dressing room following England's supporter-infuriating 0-0 draw with Algeria on Friday -- an incident that sparked furious safety concerns and a police manhunt -- was just looking for a bathroom. But the fan says he did make the most of his accidental encounter and told the team what he thought of their woeful performance, even though David Beckham claimed he just said "hello."

Mortgage advisor Pavlos Joseph is the man whose bladder caused this whole mess. He's been banned from attending future World Cup matches. Before being charged with trespassing by Cape Town police and released on bail, he told his hilarious and unbelievable story to The Mirror:

“The crazy thing is I only went looking for the toilet,” says Manchester United fan Pavlos, 32, from South-East London, who has followed England home and away since he was a schoolboy. [...]

“I found a security guard, who sent me off back along a walkway underneath the stand out on to the pitch in the direction of the players’ tunnel and explained that there were toilets near there.

“I walked across the grass and up through the tunnel. Eventually, I took a right, down a corridor and before I knew it I found myself in the dressing room. There was no door.

“The next thing I knew, there was David Beckham standing in front of me."

Hardly an elaborate plan carried out by an irate supporter looking to unleash his wrath on the squad he paid thousands and traveled a great distance to see. But wait! It gets weirder:

“I saw Joe Cole walk naked out of the shower a few feet away from me. He glanced at me and then did a massive double take. [...]

“Suddenly David spoke. He took a step towards me and said, ‘Whoa, who are you?’

“At first I didn’t know what to say. I glanced around at everyone again and then looked back at him. I said, ‘I’m ­Pavlos and I actually need the toilet.'"

So you've got a naked Joe Cole and a lost mortgage advisor that says "I'm Pavlos and I actually need the toilet." This is a comedy routine, right? People are actually panicked about this? They're not just laughing so hard that they look upset?

But Pavlos didn't squander the moment on simply stating his need for a toilet:

For a moment, no one said a word. Then I thought, ‘What the heck. I’m in the England dressing room. Why not say something?’

“I looked David straight in the eye and said, ‘David, we’ve spent a lot of money getting here. This is a disgrace. What are you going to do about it?’” [...]

“I told them, ‘That was woeful and not good enough’. The room was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. The ­players’ chins were on their chests — they looked pretty ashamed.

And with that, a FIFA official ushered Pavlos out. He says his ejection from the dressing room was so casual that the FIFA man even agreed to take his mobile phone and confirm his story to his disbelieving cousin before finally showing him to the bathroom. The police, apparently, aren't as convinced of Pavlos' wacky tale and are going through with trespassing charges.

Even still, Pavlos has no hard feelings for the team that let him down:

“If any of the England boys ever need any mortgage advice, I’m here for them — and I’ll get them a good deal.”

Pavlos Joseph: mortgage advisor, inadvertent trespasser, demotivational speaker, man in need of a toilet ... England supporter hero? I nominate "I'm Pavlos and I actually need the toilet!" to be English fans' battle cry for the rest of their team's World Cup run.  

Emirates Airbus A380, The Biggest Passenger Jet

 

Before they ever leave New York's Kennedy Airport for Paris, tourists pose to take pictures in front of it, as though it were the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty. But this is not a monument, just a monumental airplane.

Though it has been a slow-seller with airlines, the $300 million Airbus A380 has been a hit with travelers. Jason Digby and his wife Susanne came to New York a day early from Mississippi just to connect to the double-deck jet that is the largest passenger airplane in the sky. Even after 32 months, enthusiasts still seek out the airplane with the giant forehead, and airlines say it draws stronger bookings and higher prices than other wide-body jets.

Some people just want to say they've flown the behemoth, which can carry more than 500 passengers. "It made the flight seem short. I wish it had been longer," said Mr. Digby after landing in Paris on Air France Flight 7, on his way to a vacation in Crete. He was dazzled by the A380's unique tail-mounted camera, which gives a birds-eye view of the plane and everything in front of it during takeoff, landing and throughout the flight. Fliers are also amazed at what it doesn't have -- all the engine noise.

"It's quieter than any other plane I've been on," said Benoit Marchal of Paris. He also picked the A380 from among Air France's five daily flights in each direction between New York and Paris just to be on the A380. "I've heard about the A380 for years and I wanted to try it," he said.

Part of the novelty is that they are still relatively rare. Indeed, only 30 A380s are in service at five airlines so far, though Airbus has orders for another 234.

Still, amenities on the A380 haven't quite lived up to their pre-production hype. The company touted grand visions of luxuries on board, pitching the A380 as a flying hotel or cruise ship, with duty free shops on board, restaurant-style dining areas or even gyms, casinos and beauty parlors. But demand for cheap tickets prompted airlines to be more conventional.

So for the most part, they opted for lots and lots of seats, with an occasional stand-up bar for premium passengers. A few exceptions: Singapore Airlines offers first-class suites -- private cabins with double beds (the airline has a no-sex policy). Emirates has a shower cabin installed on its A380s for first-class passengers. (You get 25 minutes in the shower cabin with five minutes of water.)

Because of the vast differences in service and cabins, fares aboard the same flight can vary as widely as the 262-foot wingspan of the plane. On Singapore Airlines, for example, an Aug. 14-21 round-trip between London and Singapore on A380 flights was priced Wednesday at $14,505 for a suite, or $1,556 for a coach seat. On Australia's Qantas Airways, the span was even greater. A coach seat from Los Angeles to Sydney and back on A380 flights for the same dates could be had for as little as $818; first-class seats on the same flights cost $24,538 round-trip.

Toy Story 3 Sets Debut Record

 

The animated sequel about toys that come to life leaped to the No. 1 spot with a $109 million opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.

"Toy Story 3" became the third animated film to top $100 million in the first  weekend, joining "Shrek the Third" at $121.6 million and "Shrek 2" at $108 million.

It was by far the best debut for a film from Disney's Pixar Animation, topping "The Incredibles" at $70.5 million.

Reuniting voice stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, the movie has Woody the cowboy, Buzz Lightyear and their toy pals facing their mortality, worried they will end up on the scrap heap now that their kid has grown up.

"Whether you're a kid or a parent, you always come to a fork in the road where you make the decision of what to do about your toys. Therein lies the appeal of the movie," said Chuck Viane, head of distribution for Disney.

That, and the fact that Woody, Buzz and the gang have become like family to "Toy Story" fans, he said.

"Somehow these characters have worked their way in. When you go there, you can see the audience is vested in the movie from the start. It doesn't take any time to warm up. The minute it hits the screen, they're in," Viane said.

"Toy Story 3" took over the No. 1 spot from Sony's "The Karate Kid," which pulled in $29 million to raise its 10-day total to $106.3 million.

The weekend's other new wide release, the Warner Bros. action tale "Jonah Hex," bombed with just $5.1 million. Adapted from the comic book series, "Jonah Hex" stars Josh Brolin as a disfigured 19th century bounty hunter tracking a villain who aims to unleash a doomsday weapon.

"Toy Story 3" took in an additional $44.8 million overseas, giving it a worldwide total of $153.8 million. The movie has opened in such countries as Mexico, Argentina and China but will not debut in most major foreign markets until July and August.

The film also maintains the perfect track record of Pixar, whose 11 films all have opened at No. 1, starting with the original "Toy Story" in 1995 and continuing with such hits as "Finding Nemo," "Ratatouille," "WALL-E" and last year's "Up."

"Disney-Pixar is the best box-office insurance policy you can have," said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. "It's a brand that just resonates with audiences. If they go to a Pixar movie, they know they're going to be entertained. They're going to have a great time and also get a message. There's always a positive lesson you walk away with."

The film gave a nice boost to Hollywood, whose overall receipts had lagged in May. Domestic revenues totaled $198 million, up 31 percent from the same weekend last year, when "The Proposal" led with $33.6 million.

"Toy Story 3" continued Hollywood's streak of 3-D hits. The 3-D version of the film accounted for 60 percent of revenues, though it played on more 2-D than 3-D screens, according to Disney.

Tickets for 3-D movies typically cost a few dollars more than 2-D versions.

"Toy Story 3" took in $8.4 million in 3-D showings at huge-screen IMAX theaters. That beat the IMAX record for an animated film previously held by "Monsters vs. Aliens" with $5.1 million.

In limited release, Fox Searchlight's comedy "Cyrus" debuted strongly with $180,289 in four theaters, averaging $45,072 a cinema, compared to $27,061 in 4,028 locations for "Toy Story 3."

"Cyrus" stars John C. Reilly, Marisa Tomei and Jonah Hill in the tale of a man whose new romance is jeopardized by his girlfriend's grown son, who wants his mom to himself. The film gradually expands to nationwide release through mid-July.

Scandal Rocks French Team in World Cup

 

A training ground argument between French captain Patrice Evra and fitness coach Robert Duverne had to be broken up by manager Raymond Domenech. This was followed by the team's refusal to train and the resignation of team director Jean-Louis Valentin on Sunday. This comes a day after the revelation that striker Nicolas Anelka was being sent home early because of his profan e words for Domenech and Evra's public assertion that they have a traitor in the team that must be eliminated. The French are in a full-blown meltdown now. Mayhem is upon them. 

Valentin's resignation quickly followed the astonishing training ground scene. From the AP:

“It’s a scandal for the French, for the young people here. It’s a scandal for the federation and the French team,” Valentin said. “They don’t want to train. It’s unacceptable.

“As for me, it’s over. I’m leaving the federation. I’m sickened and disgusted,” said Valentin, who walked away from the training field, got into a car and drove off.

After the argument between Evra and Duverne that ended with Duverne throwing his badges to the ground and walking off (UPDATE: France Football reports that the spat began with Evra accusing Duverne of being the traitor), the team boarded their bus (pictured above). Domenech then read a letter from Evra and the players to the press saying that they were boycotting training in support of Anelka, who reportedly announced his international retirement after his dismissal on Saturday. 

Simply put, this is madness. And there's surely more to come from this French squad as they still have one more group match (will they even play it?!). Wow.

FIFA World Cup’s Biggest Problem

 

After more than a week of soccer field battle, here it is the FIFA’s biggest problem facing now.  The crucial calls that referees are calling in the previous games.

The sending off of Brazil’s Kaka on Sunday night in a 3-1 win over the Ivory Coast was merely the latest in a litany of atrocious decisions by the men in the middle to cast a shadow over the sport’s showpiece event.

Kaka was given a second yellow card by French referee Stephane Lannoy  when the Ivory Coast’s Kader Keita was not looking where he was going and collided heavily with the Brazil midfielder. Kaka merely held his ground for the inevitable contact, and the incident in no way warranted a free kick, let alone a yellow card.

A serious mistake was made. Kaka should suit up for Brazil in its Group G finale against Portugal on Friday but instead he will be suspended due to Lannoy’s erroneous red card.

So what about the repercussions for Lannoy?

Well, let’s see. First of all, he gets a chaffeur-driven ride back to the luxury base where all the World Cup officials are cloistered, away from the prying eyes of the media, or God forbid, the public.

Lannoy’s performance will be evaluated like all others – by the FIFA referees committee. The review may be expedited due to the glaring nature of his errors. Yet until he is either called to officiate another game or removed from the final shortlist of elite refs who will take charge of the all-important knockout games, he can remain in his happy little bubble.

And therein lies the biggest problem with the World Cup.

Human error is part of sports and with FIFA having taken the decision to steer clear of video replay, it is inevitable. But this is the World Cup, the best of the best. Except for the men in charge.

Just two days after the United States had what would have been an invaluable victory stripped away by Mali official Koman Coulibaly, Lannoy messed up. Not once but twice.

First, he allowed Luis Fabiano to clearly handle the ball en route to scoring a spectacular goal that put Brazil up 2-0 on its way to a comfortable victory at Soccer City. Then, with time running out, he found himself in an obstructed position and misread the collision between Keita and Kaka. Ivory Coast head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson claimed that Brazil “shouldn’t complain, they got a goal for free and it changed everything.”

There is no foolproof solution to this, but if FIFA, as it insists, is truly interested in making sure its referees are up to international standard it has to stop treating them like children. Referees should be made available to questions from reporters after each game, so that the fans who have spent good money to come to the tournament or given their time to watch it on television can get some answers for why their team was gypped.

What we should be talking about is the brilliance of Brazil, which with two goals from Fabiano and one from Elano, produced the best display of this World Cup so far. We shouldn’t be talking about a Frenchman who works as a video games distributor when he is not taking charge of real life matches beamed around the world.

NBA 2010 Finals | Boston Celtics Now Leads the Series 3-2 Before Going to LA

 

Paul “The Truth” Pierce inked 27 big points without turnover playing 42 minutes  sealing the last home game of the series and moving to LA for game 6.  Defense was the key for this game win according to panelists.  Rajon Rondo contributed 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 18 big points.  Kevin Garnett with 5 steals, 10 rebounds and 18 points while Ray Allen added 12 points.  The bench players again contributed well this game, pumping up the game and provided breather for the starting unit.

Kobe on the other hand couldn’t make the Lakers win with all by himself 38 big points.  Only him and Pau Gasol with only 12 points were in double figures. 

Game 6 is Tuesday in Los Angeles and would expect they would bounce back to even the series again and force game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals.

Butterflies, roses and teleporting are just medium by this local magic genius which caught our attention and took many breaths away.  Alakim’s signature butterflies will always be fans scream while he is performing.  Alakim finished his routine with a teleport act.  This could be a trick but of course, as usual performance.  How he did that?  I don’t know how he ran as fast as 40 seconds to get up there in audience block, almost 150 meters but not straight it has stairs from left to right.

Celtics Bench Killed LA Lakers in Game 4

 

Glen “Big Baby” Davis and Nate “The Great” Robinson combined force out of the bench has silenced the whole Lakers Team this night.  Davis scored 18 big points and Robinson inked 12 points to surpass game 4 and even the series to 2 games a piece.  Paul Pierce lead the team with his 19 points.  Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Rondo contributed 13, 12 and 10 points respectively.  The bench of Boston Celtics played all through out 4th quarter versus the starters of LA Lakers yet the greenies dominated the quarter until the last minute.

Kobe Bryant on the other hand had a great game still, with his 33 points including mercy shots in the regulation.  Pau Gasol also inked 21 points.  But the Celtics team did a very good job on defense especially against Bryant.

Game 5 is Sunday and still in Boston.

CNN gathered top scientists together to discuss what the fallout would be if Earth were ever in the line of fire of the Sun during a massive solar storm. The results could be devastating, they warn.

The powerful burst of energy from the Sun could wreak havoc with satellites and electric grids on Earth, ultimately costing up to $2 trillion in one year.

While so far we've escaped any big solar storms, one NASA scientists says, "the Sun is waking up from a deep slumber," and that massive solar activity is likely to increase.

 

Capital Gate Named as World’s Furthest Leaning Tower

 

Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa can no longer claim to be the furthest leaning tower ever built in the world.

That honor goes to the Capital Gate building in Abu Dhabi, which was recently certified as being the "World's Furthest Leaning Man-made Tower" by Guinness World Records, according to reports. The building leans at 18 degrees, which is nearly five times that of the Tower of Pisa, which leans at  4 degrees.

However, unlike the Tower of Pisa, the 35-story, 525-foot Capital Gate tower was built to lean 18 degrees westward. So, how did they do it? According to Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, who developed the tower, the building's floor plates are stacked vertically until the 12th floor, after which point they are "staggered over each other by between 300mm to 1400mm." ADNEC says Capital Gate also features "the world's first known use of a 'pre-cambered' core, which contains more than 15,000 cubic meters of concrete reinforced with 10,000 tons of steel."

The building, which boasts on its website that it is "designed to provide no symmetry so it amazes inside and outside," is being touted as an iconic tower for the Emirates' capital, symbolizing the city's vision of the future. "Capital Gate is a landmark development for Abu Dhabi and with this recognition the tower takes its place among the world's great buildings. It is a signature building which speaks of the foresight of the emirate," ADNEC's Chairman Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan said in a statement.

The United Arab Emirates is no stranger to signature buildings, having unveiled the world's tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai in January. The Capital Gate tower is scheduled to be completed later this year.

NBA 2010 Finals | Fisher Superb Performance Steals a Game in TD Garden – Lakers with 2-1 Lead

 

Derek Fisher saved LA Lakers with 16 points most of those are fired on the last quarter.  Kobe Bryant had 29 points, 4 assists and 7 rebounds, helping the Los Angeles Lakers take a 91-84 win over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night Game 3 of the NBA finals.

Lamar Odom had eight points and the Lakers seized control late in the first quarter, helped by some awful Boston shooting. The Celtics went without a field goal for nearly 6 minutes spanning the quarters as Los Angeles built a 17-point lead.

Kevin Garnett scored 25 points, 3 assists and 6 rebounds for the Celtics, but Ray Allen is limited to only two points and Paul Pierce were off to miserable starts but finished with 15 points.

Allen, who scored 32 points and made an NBA finals-record eight 3-pointers in Boston's Game 2 victory, missed all five shots and was scoreless. Pierce was 1 of 8 for five points and had three fouls.

It was a quick turnaround for the teams after the long flight from Los Angeles following the Celtics' 103-94 victory Sunday. Lakers coach Phil Jackson put his team through a long shootaround Tuesday afternoon, and it appeared to be paying off.

Game 4 is Thursday night.

 

The New APPLE iPhone 4

 

After months of rumours and speculation, apple has released their latest mobile device, iphone 4. The new device is the fourth-generation of iphone and comes with a new slimmer design and front-facing camera capable of video calling. apple also updated the display with a high-resolution screen that measures 960 x 640 pixels.

The phone also features a 5 megapixel camera with an LED flash and HD video recording. the front facing camera uses an application called facetime to make video calls over wifi. The design of the device itself is made from a chemically strengthened aluminosilcate glass on the back and front with a stainless steel band all the way around. the iphone 4 will come out in the us later this month and internationally later this year.

NBA 2010 Finals | Allen, Rondo Combination Lifted Boston to Even the Series to 1-1

 

Ray Allen scored 27 of his 32 points in the first half with a record-setting 3-point shooting display, Rajon Rondo completed a triple-double down the stretch and the Boston Celtics evened the NBA finals with a 103-94 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2 Sunday night.

Allen hit a finals-record eight 3-pointers in a dazzling effort for the Celtics. Rondo then took charge after Allen cooled down, racking up 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in his fifth playoff triple-double to hand Los Angeles its first home loss of the postseason.

Kobe Bryant scored 21 points while battling more foul trouble for the Lakers, who hadn't lost a home playoff game since last year's Western Conference finals.

Game 3 is Tuesday night in Boston.

 

Gretchen Barreto Wardrobe Malfunction, Gets Naked During Taping

 

Gretchen Barreto is the latest victim of a wardrobe malfunction in showbiz circulation.  It happened during the taping of “Magkaribal” with Derek Ramsay as her opposite.

While taping for her upcoming series "Magkaribal," the hem of Gretchen's red gown was caught in a wheel of a moving motorbike, pulling down her gown in the process.

The wardrobe malfunction happened while Derek was the one driving the motorbike.

"We are on a motorbike. Gretchen is looking beautiful at the back of the bike with her long gown and we are trying to get this effect na we will fly by the camera with dress," Derek said.

"Nakayakap ako sa inyo. Maya maya nakaganoon na ako (leaning backward). Akala ko may humihila. 'Yon pala yong tire inipit 'yong gown tapos sumigaw ako," Gretchen said.

Derek said Gretchen's gown was pulled down.

"In other words nahubaran ako," La Greta added.

"So ako naman I felt her let go so I hit the brakes. She fell forward then she just said 'don't move.' Alam ko na. When I hit the brakes she fell forward so I was able to cover her," Derek said.

Gretchen added, "Nung nahulog [yung gown] na talagang down, wala akong sticker bra, wala akong niplets. Buti na lang nakatalikod si Derek. Pero sabi niya may mirror siya sa harap pero hindi siya tumingin.

"Kung hindi dahil kay Derek wala na ako ngayon. Buhay ako dahil sa kanya. Thank you ha," Gretchen told Derek.

Gretchen said that she's just thankful that she and Derek were not hurt in the incident. What makes her sad, though, was her expensive red gown, which according to reports, is worth P80,000.

"Hindi ko sasabihin kung magkano. Actually hindi ko pa nababayaran," Gretchen said.

Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol combine for 53 points to help Lakers drop Celtics in Game 1 of Finals.  Bryant exploded with 30 points and 7 rebounds to lift LA Lakers and take Game one of the Best of Seven Championship Series against Boston Celtics.  Pau Gasol made an outstanding night with 23 points and 14 rebounds.  Ron Artest and Andrew Bynum added 15 and 10 points respectively.

The 12th finals meeting between the NBA's most entertaining rivals opened with a chippy, rough-edged first half featuring 28 fouls and 27 free throws.

Both teams seemed determined to get a physical edge early in the series, starting just 27 seconds in when Ron Artest and Paul Pierce got double technical fouls after tumbling to the court with elbows locked.

Bryant picked up two early fouls, but still led four Lakers starters who scored at least seven points.

Rajon Rondo led the Celtics with 10 points, and Pierce added nine. Rondo's latest productive offensive game included four assists and helped cover up for combined 5-for-14 shooting by Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, who picked up three fouls.

Boston and Los Angeles are meeting in the finals for the second time in three years, following the Celtics' six-game victory over the Lakers in 2008. If the first 24 minutes of the rematch are any indication, the series will be a knockdown, drag-out physical confrontation - and the supposedly finesse-oriented Lakers held their ground early.

Artest's defensive showdown with Pierce, the 2008 finals MVP against his hometown team, got heated in the opening minute. Jostling for rebounding position, Artest and Pierce locked elbows while back-to-back and rolled to the court together.

After they got up aggressively, the officiating crew called double technical fouls. The collision set the tone for the first quarter, which featured 18 personal fouls and 20 free throws, 12 by Boston.

On the other hand, Paul Pierce inked 24 points and 9 rebounds but not sufficient to steal game one of the series.  Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen contributed 16 and 12 points respectively.  The superstar point guard Rajon Rondo added 13 points and lead the game with 8 assists.

Guatemala City, Massive Crater

 

The now-world-famous Guatemala City sinkhole, which opened following a recent tropical storm, is estimated to be 66 feet wide, 100 feet deep, and perfectly cylindrical in shape. It must be seen to be believed.

This giant sinkhole larger than a street intersection has swallowed a three-storey building and a house in Guatemala, as residents reel from a storm that has killed at least 146 people across Central America.

In the north of Guatemala City, the giant sinkhole opened up in the wake of Tropical Storm Agatha, reportedly killing a security guard although local officials have not confirmed the death.

A similar hole opened up nearby last year and residents blamed the sinkhole on a poor sewage drainage system underground.

Many believe that this phenomenon is just a sample of UFO invasion or this could be a gateway to hell?

Robin Padilla on Mariel Rodriguez

 

“Kung meron na kayang intindihin ang mundo ko, bakit hindi?”  This is beefy statement of Robin “bad boy” Padilla which obviously referring to Mariel Rodriguez.  A sweetness between the two was developed during Robin Padilla’s stint in Wowowee as guest main host.

Rumors have been circulating showbiz world now where as Robin was the cause of Mariel split up with her known boyfriend, former PBB housemate, Zanjoe Marudo.

But according to sources, Mariel and Zanjoe were already on the rocks even before 2010 due to personal differences.  And for the record, Robin is single, which makes him all the more desirable to the ladies.  Last May 29, he was guest model and got a six-minute runway exposure at the Jag Dstrkt event for the Fashion Week elicited the loudest cheers, shrieks, and giggles.

Robin confirmed that he and Liezl Sicangco his ex-wife, had been divorced for more than two years.  But Robin wanted to make sure that no one will be hurt like anybody else that might have a relationship with Mariel.  Mariel’s last declaration on Entertainment Live!, “I’m single.”  This statement made Robin more interested to his apple of the eye now.
